Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy?

Therapy is an opportunity to talk and be heard by a trained and objective third-party. Some people come to therapy with something specific in mind that they wish to address, and other times people come with a general sense that they are not living their lives in a way that feels truly validating. Whatever your reason for seeking support, I believe that therapy can help you create a life that holds more joy, connection, and purpose, and an overall better sense of well-being.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorder. EMDR therapy helps resolve unprocessed (“stuck”) traumatic memories in the brain by facilitating their movement into healthier memory networks. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. For many clients, EMDR therapy yields rapid treatment effects and can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies. For more information on EMDR, please check out the EMDRIA website.

What can I expect from you as a therapist?

My approach is collaborative and casual. I utilize evidence-based techniques, with a little humor, to meet you where you're at and help you move forward. I am a strengths-based person-centered therapist, which means I focus on your natural strengths rather than what you perceive your weaknesses to be. I think it is important for you to know that I see each of my clients for the person they are and genuinely want to help them to reach their fullest potential. In my years of experience in mental health care, I developed a wide range of therapeutic tools to use when finely tuning each session to your needs. My approach draws on principles from my training in EMDR, ACT, DBT, IFS, and many others. In my time in this field, I have noticed that healing is not one size fits all and the most effective treatment comes from utilizing several treatment modalities that meet the individual needs of each person. Therefore, it is important for me to get to know each of my clients and use that relationship and understanding to craft a therapeutic experience that fits your specific needs.

Do you only work with trauma?

Not even remotely! I feel that trauma is a word that encompasses many things, and often underlies much of the work I do with clients. I'm also well versed in working with grief and loss, medical trauma, sexual assault, and affairs.

How much does therapy cost?

Individual sessions are $180 for a 50-minute session. Couples sessions are $200 for a 50-minute session. I currently do not participate in any insurance plans. Depending on your health insurance plan, it is possible for services to be reimbursed in full or in part. Many of my clients report receiving partial or full reimbursements. Please contact your insurance provider to verify how your plan compensates you for out-of-network services. If requested, I can provide you a receipt for you to send to your insurance. I believe that therapy should be affordable and accessible, so reduced fee services are available. If you feel like we would be a good fit, and finances are the barrier, please reach out to me and let's talk!
